Surprising New Weight Loss Secret: Turn Off The TV!

We’ve all probably seen the photos (like the one above) of the stereotypical “couch potato” that sits around all day watching TV and eating lots of junk food! The underlying message is always, “this is why they’re overweight!”. Obviously, this isn’t the case for everyone who has trouble shedding the pounds but there is new scientific evidence that suggests simply turning off the TV can boost the weight loss process!
In a study recently published in the Archives of Internal Medicine, researchers instructed a group of obese participants to reduce their daily television viewing by 50 percent. What they discovered is that the participants burned an average of 120 more calories per day! It wasn’t necessarily that turning off the TV made them eat less, it was that they were up moving about more instead of sitting.
Try this same idea in your own home. Slash your TV viewing each night or take it one step further by doing some form of exercise when a commercial comes on. These little tips add up fast and remember, it’s about creating a healthy lifestyle for yourself – not a quick fix!
