What You’re REALLY Hungry For – Season 1, Episode 020
Sexuality: How To Let Go Of Shame And Embrace Pleasure
I spent most of my adult life feeling intense shame around sex.
As I was growing up, I was told that sex was “dirty” and “wrong”.
If I was watching a movie with my family that contained nudity, I was told to “cover my eyes” because there was a “dirty” scene.
I was also told that women who wanted to experience pleasure were “bad” and “easy”.
And I knew that I didn’t want to be one of those people so I hid my desires away.
When they did come up, I felt shame and guilt. Like what I was feeling was wrong somehow.
It also didn’t help that I was a victim of sexual abuse at a young age and wasn’t quite sure how to deal with that.
Was it my fault?
Did I do something I shouldn’t have?
I couldn’t talk to anyone about it so I kept it bottled up inside.
And I wrestled with confusion around my feelings every single day.
Even know as I write this to you, I feel my chest getting tight and my breathing getting faster and shallow.
My palms are sweaty.
It’s not easy to bring up these old feelings.
Maybe you know what I mean?
But it doesn’t have to be this way.
My beliefs were just that – beliefs.
They weren’t true for me just like your beliefs aren’t true for you.
They’re just a distorted way of thinking that doesn’t serve us.
In fact, that way of thinking holds us back in SO many ways.
It’s time to stop this way of thinking.
It’s time to start a new, bigger conversation.
I sat down recently with Dr. Shannon Chavez, a nationally recognized expert on sex and our relationship with it.
The conversation I had with her was fascinating!
It shifted so much for me and I know it will do the same for you.
If you’ve ever struggled with your own feelings around sex – including guilt, shame, and complete confusion, today’s episode of What You’re REALLY Hungry For is a MUST-WATCH!
