Ellen DeGeneres Starts a ‘Sugar Cleanse’

Sugar is a big topic in Hollywood these days! Yesterday Oprah’s guest Mehmet Oz focused on diabetes and sugar. And earlier this week Ellen DeGeneres announced that she is giving up sugar- cold turkey!

Here’s what Ellen had to say about her no-sugar decision:

“I want pure energy. I want to be healthy. I started doing Pilates this morning, I’m doing yoga tomorrow and everyday.”

“When you really look into this, about no sugar, it means giving up everything! Nothing- no alcohol- no sugar,” Ellen told her audience.

Ellen is eating fruit and other natural sources of sugar (but no synthetic sugar substitutes) during her ‘sugar cleanse.’ She’s drinking lots of water, exercising and eating whole foods (Ellen is a vegan). So far, she has experienced some difficulty sleeping but says “I actually feel better and have more energy than when I was sleeping.”

Check out Ellen’s no-sugar announcement here.
