If you’re like me, you tuned in to last night’s Academy Awards to see who was wearing what. But I bet you didn’t know that, among the stunning gowns and dapper tuxes we saw last night, there were a few eco-friendly fashion choices!
Who stood out for being green? James Cameron’s wife Suzy Amis wore an eco-conscious design by Jillian Gantz (a Michigan State design student!), who constructed the dress using a waste-free technique.

British film star Colin Firth’s wife Livia took the recycling idea even further in her dress, by Orsola de Castro, that was constructed entirely from waste scraps from other fashion labels. Can you believe that this gorgeous black gown is recycled waste? :

And, fittingly, Food Inc. director Robert Kenner wore a handmade Loomstate tuxedo made of organic material. It is the first such garment to be made in the USA for the Oscar ceremony- and we hope that it will be the beginning of a big trend!
Perhaps next year eco-fashion will make an even bigger splash at the Oscars- but for now we’re happy to see a few of Hollywood’s elite walking the eco-conscious talk!
