What do Ellen DeGeneres, Ginnifer Goodwin, Alicia Silverstone, John Salley and Emily Deschanel have in common? For one, they’re all healthy, eco-conscious celebrities. But these five special individuals are linked even further- they’re also vegan. And the in-the-know, eco-friendly website Ecorazzi just named them to be the top five vegan celebrities of 2009!

From Emily, a 16-year vegan veteran, to Ellen, a brand new convert, these celebs are driving the vegan agenda forward.

These celebs stick by veganism for several reasons, from animal rights to earth-consciousness. And, for some, it’s a great way to eat healthy. Ginnifer recently told W magazine that, since becoming vegan, “I enjoy food more. I’ve cut out so many calories [by not eating] animal products, but I’m certainly making them up in other areas. So my cholesterol is better and I’ve stayed the exact same size but I’m eating more in quantity, which is my natural inclination. I’m a big eater.”

Whatever their reason, these celebs have certainly earned their places on the celebrity vegan top 5!
